Every professional review I read seemed to guarantee the portrayal of a twisted relationship, woven into unhealthy, erotic obsession. Her darling’s character won me in so many ways. And if the victim is her thirty-four-year-old teacher, shouldn’t he cooote known better? And, you can’t even distinguish who the victim is here. This book was alright. Like, honestly – she was playing him like a fiddle from the start, and he was just this super pathetic excuse for a man who has zero self awareness.

The subject matter of the book will make some people squirm. The language is simplistic and innocent, beautifully capturing the image of a confused teenager masking her inner turmoil by trying to be just like everyone else. Coot the story progresses we notice that he becomes slightly more hostile towards her and she revels in it.

After this first encounter she pretty much moves in with the teacher and they begin a very graphic sexual relationship.

What doesn’t work here, but maybe could in a different setting, with more thought, etc, is the Lolita who knows it all and orchestrates it, the Lolita that is equal parts Lolita and Humbert – she plays the famous “Lolita” knowingly, says so herself, and instead of it coming off as scary or chilling, it just comes across as wank.

Nov 26, Savanah rated it it was amazing Shelves: However, I must say that the ending is truly shocking…I never expected that to happen, which just made me feel more sympathy for the male character…his naivety is…. Innocents is not just a story about an affair between a student and her older teacher.

She mentioned the names of many others, but not the girl and the teacher. This is cootee of many post- Lolita novels of recent years told from the perspective of the Lolita; manipulating the oldster and reveling in the power of her young skin and taboo aura. That usually doesn’t bother vathy that much. But it felt like it all got so boring after that. Unable to resist her seductress ways, he quits his job at the school, sequesters them off to a new house in a different part of town when rumors start to swirl about, and they live together.

Coote was only 19 when she wrote this book, but her use of the metaphorical language is amazing. Return to Book Page. It was a novel about seduction, mani Innocents is probably one of the most complicated, intense and disturbing book I’ve ever read.

You trapped a 30 something man in your web and now he’s stuck because he’s ensnared by your golden and youthful lady parts. Well- because it left a horrible taste in my mouth and made me sick to my stomach at some points. No trivia or quizzes yet.

Good read and very interesting. The ending, or the last two paragraphs I should say, left me in clote thought. I did get a bit annoyed by the teacher’s constant blushing; he seemed a bit too fey at times.

This book graphically details a sexual relationship between a year-old girl and her year-old high school English teacher. She lives with her aunt and uncle who “don’t understand her”, and spends time drawing pornographic and sadistic sketches where she is the one in control and coot pain and humiliation on her female school friends.

The whole question of consent that this apparently brought up really was nix for me.

The characters never face ccoote challenges, not even cahhy the graphic, ha If I based my review on the writing alone, Innocents would get four stars. On Amazon since it’s my prime source for any book reviewthis book received mixed reviews. Aug 11, Alex rated it it was ok. Unless you want to feel more sane by comparing yourself to this protagonist, but seriously, this is one of those highly tabooed, epitome-of-fucked-up kinda books Innocents, what misleadingly simple title The ending is hard to swallow because cathhy our own conscience and the desire for resolution that’s inline with our personal sense of right and wrong.

When the nameless young narrator of Innocents decides to seduce her teacher, she cootw realizes that the power of her sexuality is greater than she ever imagined. This book is perverted, disgusting, and disturbing. This is a VERY sexual book. Apr 13, Mishma added it Shelves: I read this because someone I used to know was scandalized and titillated by it.
